The Code establishes the principles and rules to be observed in the exercise of administrative activity, aimed at achieving the public interest, while respecting the subjective rights and legally protected interests of individuals and legal persons.
The Civil Code is a document that brings together rules relating to civil law, governing topics such as the status of persons, property, as well as private relations between citizens.
This Ordinance provides for the Civil Code.

The Burundi Civil Code provides a comprehensive set of laws governing civil matters such as property rights, contracts, family law, and obligations. It consists of 3 books dedicated to (1) Personal and Family Code (2) Of goods and different modifications of property and (3) Contracts or conventional obligations.
