The Constitution was promulgated in 1984 and modified in 1996. It includes 133 articles addressing a wide array of issues including among other things fundamental rights and freedoms, the fundamental principles of the State and institutional arrangements.

This law determines which individuals have Central African nationality at birth as their nationality of origin. Central African nationality is acquired or lost after birth by the operation of the law or by a decision of the public authority taken under the conditions established by law.
