WHO Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Capacity Building workshop in Tunisia, 20-23 February 2023

A Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Capacity Building workshop, ‘Building Better Before: Scaling up capacity for mental health and psychosocial support preparedness’ was organised by the WHO Department of Mental Health and Substance Use on 20-23 February 2023 at the WHO Global Centre for Training in Tunis Tunisia.

This 4-day workshop delivered multiple exercises that focused on developing multisectoral preparedness for real-world hazards to stimulate response actions and coordination through live interjections and case developments. Dr Ryoma Kayano, Technical Officer, from the WHO Kobe Centre participated in this workshop and provided technical support. Dr Kayano said ‘Implementing MHPSS services is more important than ever in the current global situation. This workshop provided a great opportunity to learn and discuss with delegates from many different countries and organisations who could operationalise the MHPSS preparedness approaches to integrate and scale up MHPSS preparedness planning activities at national level or in the filed.’.

Recognizing WKC's long-lasting contribution to global health

WHO Centre for Health Development (WHO Kobe Centre - WKC) received a beautiful craftwork from Dr Viroj Tangcharoensathien, one of the Advisory Committee members of WKC.

We would like to thank Dr Tangcharoensathien for his gift recognizing WKC's long-lasting contribution to global health agenda, focusing on Universal Health Coverage in the context of population ageing and health emergencies and disaster risk management.

Keynote Address by Director of WHO Kobe Center at Symposium Hosted by Kobe University

On 15 February 2023, Sarah L. Barber, Director of the WHO Kobe Center, delivered an insightful virtual keynote address at a symposium “Past and Future of Frontier Center for Asian Health Sciences” hosted by the Frontier Center for Asian Health Sciences Graduate School of Health Sciences, Kobe University. Her keynote centered on the critical role of the WHO Kobe Center in promoting Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and translating global health initiatives and accomplishments to the local contexts. 

With over 50 participants in attendance, including students, faculty members, JICA staff, and representatives from Hanoi Medical University, the lecture sparked a lively discussion on various aspects of UHC, particularly on the importance of insurance and financial protection for all citizens, irrespective of a country's economic or developmental level.
