5th PAGNet meeting: Strengthening public health capacities for ports and shipping - Lisbon, Portugal - from 7 to 9 July 2015 (click here to read more)

Dear PAGNet members,

As the PAGNet secretariat, we have the honour to inform you to the 5th PAGNet meeting: Strengthening public health capacities for ports and shipping to be held in Lisbon, Portugal, from 7 to 9 July 2015.

Meeting objectives :
1.    To foster collaboration, information and knowledge sharing, on practice of prevention, detection and management of public health risks and events at ports and ships.
2.    To review PAGNet achievements.
3.    To review contribution and functioning of PAGNet during public health emergency.
4.    To discuss lessons learn from Ebola Virus Disease Outbreak in West Africa.

Main topics :
-    Overview on IHR implementation at Points of entry
-    Overview and lessons learned from EVD Outbreak in West Africa
-    Emergency preparedness at ports and on board ships (international organizations and countries experiences)
-    Detection of and response to death or illness onboard ships
-    Use of “single window” approach for public health risk assessment
-    Ebola Virus Disease case study
-    WHO Technical advice for management of public health events on board ship
-    On site visit of the Port of Lisbon and emergency operations experience sharing

This event will be an incredible opportunity for networking between members and representatives from different international/ regional Maritime organizations/agencies , as well as a forum for sharing valuable experiences and lessons learned towards strengthening public health capacities at points of entry, international travel and transport.

Kindly note that all the events will be conducted in English,  the voluntary participants are responsible for visa requests, as applicable and all costs incurred for participation in the meeting, including travel, hotel accommodation, daily subsistence travel allowance, health insurance to cover sickness and medical emergency in addition to other costs for participants.

About PAGNet
Ports, Airports and Ground Crossing Network (PAGNet) is a network that brings together public health officials in relation to international travel and transport and key international/regional partners/academic institutions to share information of public health activities at ports, airports and ground crossings.

It aims to contribute towards protecting the health of populations and the prevention, detection and control of international spread of disease and its agents through international travel and transport.

The added-value of this network in terms of contribution to public health capacity strengthening at Ports, Airports and Ground crossings has been exemplified by the surge of information-sharing and technical forum discussion among members during major events of international interest and impact on public health (H1N1, Fukushima, MERS,  international spread of wild poliovirus Poliovirus) recent rampant Ebola outbreak in West Africa.  Further information on PAGNet objectives, scope and partnership, activities is available on the PAGNet website: https://extranet.who.int/pagnet/
