The material for this training comes from the WHO Handbook for the Management of Public Health Events in Air Transport. It focuses on communicable diseases, but as directed by the International Health Regulations (2005) also considers the multi-hazard (biological, chemical and radiological) approach.

Target Audience: Airport Health Authorities

After completing this module you will be able to:

  • Explain the continuum of Public Health Event Management in Air Transport (PHEMAT).
  • Explain the core capacity requirements for public health events under the International Health Regulations (IHR), 2005.
  • Describe the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) and guidance documents related to public health.
  • Describe appropriate public health measures to be applied to them.
