¿Quiénes somos?

La Conferencia de las Partes del Convenio Marco para el Control del Tabaco (CMCT) de la OMS, resolvió en su 5ª reunión realizada en Seúl, Corea del Sur, en el año 2012, crear centros de intercambio de conocimiento a nivel internacional.

El Centro de Cooperación Internacional para el Control del Tabaco (CCICT) de la OMS con sede en el Ministerio de Salud Pública de Uruguay, es uno de los Centros de Intercambio de Conocimientos (Knowledge Hub) de la Secretaría del Convenio Marco para el Control del Tabaco (CMCT - OMS).

 

Visión

El CCICT es un instrumento para contribuir a alcanzar el máximo nivel de implementación del CMCT a escala nacional, regional y mundial, de esta manera reducir continua y sustancialmente la prevalencia del consumo de tabaco y la exposición al humo de tabaco, y sus consecuencias en el contexto de la Estrategia Mundial para Acelerar el Control del Tabaco: promover el desarrollo sostenible mediante la aplicación del CMCT de la OMS 2019-2030, según decisión FCTC/COP10 (15) que prorrogó la misma.

 

Misión

  • Promover mecanismos y asistencia técnica en la aplicación de los artículos 8 y 14 del CMCT –OMS en consonancia con la Estrategia Mundial para el Control del Tabaco;

  • Apoyar a las Partes del Convenio en la elaboración de estrategias para aplicar medidas eficaces de protección contra la exposición al humo de tabaco;

  • Adoptar medidas eficaces para promover el abandono del consumo de tabaco y tratamiento de la dependencia del tabaco, en consonancia con los artículos 8 y 14 del Convenio;

  • Cooperar con las Partes del Convenio, los Centros de Conocimientos y la Secretaría e impulsar el desarrollo de capacidades, la generación de conocimientos y recursos, para alcanzar los objetivos del Convenio y de sus protocolos y así enfrentar la epidemia del tabaquismo.

 

Objetivos

  • Lograr la participación activa de organismos, agencias e instituciones nacionales, regionales e internacionales involucrados en el tema, no relacionados con la industria tabacalera.

  • Proveer asistencia, facilitar el intercambio de conocimiento y compartir experiencias sobre la implementación del CMCT – OMS entre los países.

  • Identificar y facilitar el acceso a los recursos humanos, técnicos y financieros disponibles para implementar el CMCT - OMS, en relacionado, aunque no exclusivamente, a los Artículos 8, y 14.

  • Elaborar, recopilar y diseminar materiales y documentos para el intercambio y la construcción de capacidades.

 

Who We Are?

The Conference of the Parties to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) resolved in its 5th meeting held in Seoul, South Korea, in 2012, to establish international knowledge-hub centres.

The WHO FCTC Knowledge Hub on Internatonal on Smoke Free Environments and Tobacco Cessation, based at the Ministry of Public Health of Uruguay, is one of the Knowledge Hubs of the Secretariat of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC).

 

Vision

The WHO FCTC Knowledge Hub on Internatonal on Smoke Free Environments and Tobacco Cessation serves as a tool to contribute to the highest level of implementation of the WHO FCTC at national, regional, and global levels. This aims to continuously and substantially reduce the prevalence of tobacco use and exposure to tobacco smoke, along with their consequences, within the framework of the Global Strategy to Accelerate Tobacco Control: promoting sustainable development through the implementation of the WHO FCTC 2019-2030, according to decision FCTC/COP10(15) which extended it.

 

Mission

  • To promote mechanisms and technical assistance in the implementation of Articles 8 and 14 of the WHO FCTC, in alignment with the Global Strategy for Tobacco Control.

  • To support the Parties to the Convention in developing strategies to implement effective measures for protection against exposure to tobacco smoke.

  • To adopt effective measures to promote smoking cessation and treatment of tobacco dependence, in accordance with Articles 8 and 14 of the Convention.

  • To cooperate with the Parties to the Convention, Knowledge Hubs, and the Secretariat, and to drive capacity building, knowledge generation, and resource mobilization to achieve the objectives of the Convention and its protocols, thereby tackling the tobacco epidemic.

Objectives

  • To achieve active participation from national, regional, and international organizations, agencies, and institutions involved in the subject, excluding the tobacco industry.

  • To provide assistance, facilitate knowledge exchange, and share experiences regarding the implementation of the WHO FCTC among countries.

  • To identify and facilitate access to available human, technical, and financial resources for the implementation of the WHO FCTC, particularly but not exclusively related to Articles 8 and 14.

  • To develop, collect, and disseminate materials and documents for knowledge exchange and capacity building.

About us

Mission

  • Deal with technical knowledge in matters of South-South and Triangular Cooperation.
  • Cooperate and promote the exchange of skills, knowledge and experiences between countries, as well as provide assistance when appropriate.
  • Promote the development of capacities, the generation of knowledge and resources, to achieve the objectives of the Convention and its protocols.
  • Promote the continuous improvement of the FCTC as an instrument to face the tobacco epidemic.

 

Goals
