Abstract
The purpose of this study was to compare the shear bond strengths and enamel surface morphology after debonding a polycrystalline ceramic bracket (Transcend 2000) bonded with a light-cured resin cement (Transbond) without enamel etching or by etching for 15 seconds with 10% or 37% phosphoric acid and 10% maleic acid. Forty extracted noncarious human premolars were used. The buccal enamel surfaces were used and the teeth randomly divided in to four groups of 10 teeth each: Group 1: No enamel etching; Group 2: Enamel etching for 15 seconds with 10% phosphoric acid; Group 3: Enamel etching for 15 seconds with 37% phosphoric acid; and Group 4: Enamel etching for 15 seconds with 10% maleic acid. The brackets were bonded to the etched enamel surfaces according to manufacturers' instructions except the etching time variations. All specimens were stored in distilled water for 24 hours and then thermocycled for 300 cycles between 5 degrees C and 55 degrees C. The specimens were mounted in dental stone and placed in the Instron at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min using a knife-edged blade. Immediately after debonding, the enamel surface and bracket-enamel interface were evaluated visually and with a stereomicroscope. Representative samples were then examined with the SEM. ANOVA and Student-Newman-Keuls tests were performed. The results (in MPa) were: Group 1:11.83 (+3.9); Group 2: 28.80 (+12.6); Group 3: 26.25 (+5.3); Group 4: 18.06 (+6.9). Groups 2 and 3 were statistically significantly different (p<0.0001) from Groups 1 and 4. Groups 2 vs. 3 or 1 vs. 4 were not statistically different. Debonding occurred mainly at the bracket-resin interface in all groups, except Group 2 which displayed two samples with enamel cohesive failures and two fracturing the bracket. The SEM evaluation revealed that after debonding, the group etched with the 37% phosphoric acid gel had the roughest enamel surface and was the only group to present enamel fractures. Bracket bonding with unetched enamel and enamel etched with 10% phosphoric acid gel should be clinically investigated using the products tested.

Abstract
The primary objective of this study is to investigate the adhesion properties between four current generations of bonding systems and enamel surface conditioned by Er:YAG laser, using an energy density comparable to the ablation threshold of enamel. By including an energy density comparable to published adhesion studies, the secondary objective is to compare the adhesion effects of these selected laser conditioning parameters on enamel with other similar published studies. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Buccal sides of randomly selected human molars (N=117) were prepared and divided into nine experimental groups depending on the generations of bonding system represented by the corresponding number (G4, G5, G6, G7) and the additional laser conditioning on the enamel surface represented by laser etch (LE) and laser etch with a higher pulse energy, followed by acid etch (AE), if required. The bonding resin systems and their specific requirements were applied after the enamel surfaces were laser conditioned following a specific set of laser parameters. Composite posts of 1.6 mm in diameter and approximately 6 mm in length were then restored on each of the sample surfaces. After 48 h, the composite assemblies were tested to failure under compression using a knife edge loading head at a cross head speed of 1 mm/min until the composite cylinders were separated from the surface. The data collected were then analyzed using one-way analysis of variance and SAS software program (9.1, TS1M3). RESULTS: No significant difference was found among these groups: AE+G4/LEAE+G4, G6/LE+G6, and G7/LE+G7. Significant differences were found in the remaining groups: AE+G5/LEAE+G5, AE+G5/LEAE-H+G5, and LEAE+G5/LEAE-H+G5. The bond strength results were compared among similar published data and possible influences from different laser parameters, bonding systems, and their combined impact on the enamel surface and its adhesion properties were analyzed. CONCLUSION: Under our specific settings, additional laser conditioning after phosphoric acid etch is beneficial to one generation of bonding resin (G5). There is no significant change or detrimental effect to the other three groups (G4, G6, and G7) of bonding resins with respect to their final bond strength. The published reports of lower bond strength after additional laser conditioning may be related to thermal damage or unfavorable alteration to the enamel surface by excessive laser energy and the chemistry of bonding systems studied. These factors will affect the overall wettability and the subsequent adhesion properties of the enamel surface.

Abstract
To assess the prevalence of sheesha smoking and the personal, social and environmental factors associated with it. Subjects and A convenience sample of 761 students 261 male, 500 female] in the teacher training program of the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training in Kuwait City answered a 70-question survey regarding sheesha use. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 10. 24.6% of males and 5.5% of the females smoked sheesha. 49.2% of the male sheesha smokers smoked at least one bowl a day, as did 26.9% of the female sheesha smokers. The majority of sheesha smokers first started smoking sheesha at age 18 or older. Almost half were encouraged to smoke sheesha the first time by their friends. The majority of sheesha non-smokers had sheesha non-smokers as friends. Among the sheesha smokers, 59.2% of females and 61.3% of males said all or most of their friends smoked sheesha. Sheesha smokers were more likely than sheesha non-smokers to live in a home where there are other sheesha smokers. Half of the males and one-third of the females who smoked sheesha wanted to quit. The majority of sheesha smokers also smoked cigarettes. Teachers, including female teachers, were frequently seen smoking in their schools. As expected, sheesha smokers had more positive attitudes towards sheesha smoking and were less likely to believe in its harmful effects. This is the first known study of sheesha use among college students in Kuwait. Results suggest efforts to reduce sheesha smoking in this young population should: 1] help young people address pressures from peers, 2] reduce sheesha smoking at home and school environment, 3] counteract personal beliefs and attitudes that contribute to sheesha smoking, and 4] reinforce beliefs about the health risks of sheesha smoking

Abstract
BACKGROUND: The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence of shisha smoking and associated factors among medical students in Malaysia. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted at the Management and Science University from December 2011 until March 2012. The questionnaire consisted of five sections including socio-demographic, social environment, knowledge about shisha, psychosocial factors, and personal shisha smoking behavior. Obtained data were analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS 13). T-test was used to determine the relationships between shisha smoking and socio-demographic characteristic. RESULTS: A total number of 300 medical students participated in this study. Mean age was 22.5+/-2.5 years. The majority were female, Malay, single, from urban areas (67%, 54%, 97%, 73%; respectively). The prevalence of shisha smoking among medical students was found to be 20%. The study revealed that many students believed that shisha does not contains nicotine, carbon monoxide, does not lead to lung cancer, dental problems and does not lead to cardiovascular diseases (25%, 20.7%, 22.3%, 29%, 26.7%; respectively).
