The WHO FCTC Knowledge Hub on Smokeless Tobacco, observed World No Tobacco Day 2024 by organizing various events at the Institute from 13th May 2024 to 31st May 2024 aligned with the theme “Protecting Children from Tobacco Industry Interference”. The purpose of these events was to raise awareness about the harmful aspects of tobacco and to encourage people to quit.

The series of events organized at the Institute are as follows

Tobacco Awareness Activities at School

The WHO FCTC Knowledge Hub on Smokeless Tobacco organized a tobacco awareness campaign aligned with the theme of World No Tobacco Day 2024 "Protecting children from tobacco industry interference" at Government Junior High School, Morena, Uttar Pradesh, India. On this occasion, various activities like interactive session on tobacco awareness, No tobacco pledge; Poster & slogan making activity was conducted with school students.

Sensitization of Institute Staff

The WHO FCTC Knowledge Hub on Smokeless Tobacco successfully organized a Sensitization activity of newly joined technical staff on 10-05-2024. Staff were sensitized on tobacco free institute, functions of WHO FCTC Knowledge Hub on Smokeless Tobacco and other major upcoming activities of World No Tobacco Day 2024 organized by the Knowledge Hub.

No Tobacco Pledge & Slogan/Poem Writing Competition

A Slogan/Short Poem Writing Competition was organized by the WHO FCTC Knowledge Hub on Smokeless Tobacco on 21st May 2024 in observance of World No Tobacco Day 2024. "NO TOBACCO PLEDGE" was also taken by all Institute Staff on this occasion, followed by prize distribution to the winners.

Public Outreach Activity on 31st May 2024

On World No Tobacco Day, 31st May 2024, the WHO FCTC Knowledge Hub on Smokeless Tobacco organized an "Oral Health Screening & Tobacco Awareness Camp"  at DLF Mall Of India, Sector 18, Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India. During this event, youth were informed about the harmful effects of tobacco use and how they can protect themselves and their loved ones from the tobacco use and help to participate in cessation. A total of 52 participants sensitized during this event.

World No Tobacco Day with Special Photo Frame

The WHO FCTC Knowledge Hub on Smokeless Tobacco developed a special photo frame to express solidarity to tobacco control efforts worldwide aligned with the theme of World No Tobacco Day 2024.  All Institute staff came forward and shared their individual photos with the special photo frame in their personal twitter handles to support this initiative.

Keynote Lecture on World No Tobacco Day 2024

Dr. Shalini Singh, Director WHO FCTC KH SLT & ICMR-NICPR participated as a keynote speaker and delivered her talk on the topic tilted “Smokeless Tobacco: It’s Harm and Ways to Quit” on the occasion of World No Tobacco Day 2024 organized by Indian Public Health Association. Dr. Singh covered all aspects of smokeless tobacco related harms and available cessation supports in her talk.
