Regional WHO SEARO IHR core capacities at points of entry meeting (June 26-28) and training on ship inspection and issuance of ship sanitation certificates (June 24-26), held in Kochi, India

The Regional WHO SEARO IHR core capacities at points of entry meeting (June 26-28) aimed to bring together IHR and points of entry national experts for information sharing on national experiences and discuss regional aspects of implementation of IHR at points of entry in SEARO Region. The meeting was preceeded by a training on ship inspection and issuance of ship sanitation certificates - SSC (June 24-26), using WHO Learning Program tool (a blended programm with e-learniing and face-to-face components) for ship inspectors of SEARO countries, including visit on board a ship.

WHO WPRO Regional Workshop to strengthen core capacities at designated points of entry under the IHR was held on April 23-26, Ningbo, China, 2013

The main objectives of the workshop were to:
- introduce the updated WHO guidelines related to the IHR core capacities at designated point of entry;
- review Member States' experiences and lessons learnt in establishing and strengthening institutional systems for the IHR core capacities at designated points of entry; and
- develop adequate skills by demonstrating the practical application of the guidelines through a site visit during the workshop.

WHO EURO Training course on ship sanitation inspection and issuance of ship sanitation certificates, 15 to 19 April, Antalya, Turkey, 2013

The training brought together ship inspectors and staff working at ports and/or competent authorities for ports in the Black Sea in Bulgaria, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova, Romania, the Russian Federation, Turkey and the Ukraine. The training used WHO Learning programme and was facilitated by international ship sanitation experts as well as WHO staff from the WHO Regional Office for Europe and the Headquarters.
