Health Canada has recently developed draft 2011 Inspection Guidelines for Food and Sanitation Onboard Aircraft (attached). These guidelines draw on recognized best practices from national and international standards including the WHO Guide to Hygiene and Sanitation in Aviation. They will form the basis for the development of an inspection and audit program with air carriers in Canada.

I am interested to learn of any training programs to support food safety and sanitation practices for aircraft. In particular, I would be interested to hear if public health/port officers are providing or supporting training for:
- - groomers who clean and disinfect on aircraft
- - food safety for flight attendants for onboard food service.
If anyone has a table of contents to share, that would be greatly appreciated.

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Cooperative Arrangement for the Prevention of Spread of Communicable Disease Through Air Travel (CAPSCA) held the 2nd Global Coordination Meeting in Abuja, Nigeria, from 10 to 12 October 2011. Dear all,
In my country, these inspections are conducted by a team including hygiene technicians and nurses. the teams are supervised by a medical doctor who is, in general, the head of unit.

Hello
I am interested to learn if anyone has experience conducting environmental/public health inspections for food and sanitation onboard aircraft (at the gate, not during flight). If so, do you have domestic legislation outlining public health requirements? Do you inspect domestic as well as foreign carriers? If you have inspection guidelines, have you referenced the WHO Guide to Hygiene and Sanitation in Aviation, 3rd Edition?

Dear all,
In my country, the border health control authorities are increasingly asked for authorizations about imported specific products like medicines, cosmetics, herbal products, food additives...etc.
Indeed, the customs department doesn't allow the release of these products by individual persons or by companies until the authorizations are availables.
In fact, the control is managed on a case by case either upon documents or after lab analysis. the control is often shared between agriculture department and health department.
what's about your own experience?
