79th WHA Individual Statements
UICC welcomes the review of the Global Action Plan on AMR and is concerned by the clinical overlap between cancer and AMR. Cancer patients remain disproportionately vulnerable to infections.
We recommend the following actions:
• Recognise the cancer community as a stakeholder in AMR awareness and behavioural change
• Integrate AMR education into pre- and in-service training for oncology professionals
• Foster collaboration between oncology and infectious disease to monitor AMR and cancer outcomes, including infection rates and antimicrobial usage
• Promote standardised reporting aligned with national cancer and AMR surveillance
• Strengthen IPC strategies and access to diagnostics and antimicrobials, particularly in outpatient oncology settings, where cancer patients face elevated AMR risks
• Include AMR in national cancer control plans and cancer care considered in NAP reviews.
