Agenda item 12.9: Draft updated global action plan on antimicrobial resistance

Esteemed delegates and Honorable Chairperson,

We recognise AMR as a threat to routine care, surgical safety, and progress toward UHC, undermining global health security, and welcome the updated Global Action Plan.

We urge Member States to operationalize the action plan through fully funded, accountable and multisectoral national action plans grounded in the One Health approach. This includes national antimicrobial stewardship, surveillance systems, equitable access to diagnostics and sustainable research.

Additionally, integrating practical training on stewardship, infection prevention and control, and rational prescribing into health professions’ curricula is essential. Furthermore, youth engagement must also extend beyond consultation, and thus w ask for integrated sustained involvement of youth and healthcare students within national AMR action plans.

AMR action must move from awareness to accountability. Thank you.
