International Lactation Consultant Association

Meeting:

79th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Group 4: SDGs & Digital Health
Statement:

ILCA welcomes the Global strategy on Digital Health, emphasizing the need for a safe, equitable, ethical and sustainable approach to ensuring that digital technologies are used to enhance health while protecting people’s safety and privacy.

ILCA advocates for a rights-based approach, prioritizing inclusion and universal health coverage, and ensuring that technology complements and does not replace human interaction and empathy in healthcare. Breastfeeding counseling and support can be provided by a combination of in person and digital means.

Last year the Assembly adopted a resolution on regulating the digital marketing of breastmilk substitutes; for meaningful progress, the monitoring and regulation of digital marketing of BMS and other health products should be integrated within the implementation of the global strategy.
