79th WHA Individual Statements
Antimalarial drug resistance is a critical component of global antimicrobial resistance and threatens to reverse hard-won progress against malaria. Urgent action is needed as mutations reduce treatment effectiveness. MMV promotes responsible stewardship, including multiple first-line therapies to extend the life of current medicines, and develops with partners innovative tools, such as triple artemisinin-based combinations, drugs with novel mechanisms of action, and transmission-blocking approaches. We urge Member States to support innovation and fully integrate the WHO Strategy to Combat Antimalarial Resistance in Africa into the broader Global Action Plan on AMR.
