79th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
20.1 Reform of the global health architecture and the UN80 Initiative
Statement:

Honourable Chair, distinguished delegates,

Strengthening the global health architecture is essential to ensuring that our collective systems are coordinated, resilient, and capable of delivering equitable outcomes. Reform must prioritize sovereignty, reduce fragmentation, and reinforce core public health capacities.

The Global Polio Eradication Initiative exemplifies effective architecture through its multi partner model, uniting national leadership, shared accountability, and coordinated action at scale. Its surveillance, laboratory, and rapid response systems now underpin broader health security and resilience, while its equity driven approach reaches the most vulnerable.

As reforms advance, leveraging GPEI’s capacities will preserve gains, strengthen country systems, and demonstrate that a coherent, inclusive architecture can deliver lasting results for all.
