The Save the Children Fund

Meeting:

79th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Group 7: Health Emergencies & Public Health Measures
Statement:

Save the Children is delivering this statement as member of the Global Health Cluster.

Humanitarian crises account for nearly half of all deaths among children under five and 58% of maternal deaths. Yet maternal and child survival in crisis settings remains chronically underfunded and insufficiently coordinated across humanitarian and development sectors. Funding cuts affected 6600 health facilities supported by Health Cluster partners impacting 52 million crisis affected people

We ask Member States to:
• Urgently fund and scale up quality maternal, newborn, and child health services in all humanitarian contexts, including antenatal care, skilled birth attendance, and prevention, detection, and treatment of childhood illness and malnutrition.
• Ensure greater alignment across global health, development actors with humanitarian sectors to prioritise maternal, newborn, and child survival.
