World Vision International

Meeting:

79th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Group 8: Rehab, Indigenous Health, & Nutrition
Statement:

World Vision International welcomes the continued work to advance progress towards the Global Nutrition Targets and their operational indicators, as well as implementation of the Breast-Milk Substitutes Code. With stagnating progress, Health Ministries must urgently take ownership of nutrition and champion it multi-sectorally - especially with Finance Ministries - to ensure harmonized financing for nutrition across multiple sectors. Taxes on unhealthy food products can increase revenue for nutrition and enable strengthening of the health workforce, data systems, and supply chains at the community level. These actions must be done in tandem with other government ministries to ensure the affordability of healthy diets. Financing must be unlocked to implement National Nutrition Plans and comprehensively deliver the Essential Nutrition Actions.
