79th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Group 2: NCDs & Mental Health
Statement:

MWIA brings 106 years of leadership experience in women’s health and represents 12,000 female health professionals worldwide.

We welcome the Director-General’s report and the documented reduction in NCDs among women in Central Asia, the Middle East and North Africa.

However, we are concerned that socio-economic disparities continue to affect the affordability of basic NCD care, and that 66% of the poorest women still lack access to universal health coverage.

We need more effective solutions for NCD management as part of UHC. We also need stronger women-centred policies to advance research and development in the field.

We therefore call upon Member States to increase investments in prevention and control of NCDs with special focus on Women.
