Medical Women's International Association

Meeting:

79th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
20.1 Reform of the global health architecture and the UN80 Initiative
Statement:

The Medical Women’s International Association welcomes the proposed WHO-led reform of the global health architecture and the UN80 Initiative as an important opportunity to strengthen multilateral cooperation, equity and accountability in global health governance.

At a time of geopolitical instability and constrained health financing, WHO’s leadership role as the coordinating authority for global health is more essential than ever.

MWIA believes that efforts on renewed global health architecture reforms should be synergized with WHO’s work on evidence-based public health and social measures, helping establish stronger governance principles and evidence-informed decision-making.

The process should more actively engage Parliamentarians as direct representatives of their constituencies responsible for approving health-related programmes, policies and budgets.

MWIA stands ready to collaborate in advancing these reforms.
