79th WHA Individual Statements
The Medical Women’s International Association, representing 45 national associations across eight geographic regions, is concerned by the slow progress towards global maternal, infant and young child nutrition targets.
We emphasize that nutrition is fundamental to Universal Health Coverage and healthy life-course outcomes.
We urge Member States to strengthen integration of nutrition targets into national health policies and primary health care systems, particularly in fragile and conflict-affected settings.
We further support stronger protection of breastfeeding and regulation of unmonitored digital advertising of breast-milk substitutes.
Greater investment is needed in prevention of malnutrition, maternal nutrition, and resilient food systems to reduce inequalities and protect the health of women, infants and young children.
