Medical Women's International Association

Meeting:

79th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
12.4 Universal health coverage
Statement:

The Medical Women’s International Association, representing 12,000 women physicians across 70 countries, urges renewed political commitment to Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

In the context of geopolitical tensions and constrained global health financing, Member States must strengthen national investments in UHC and ensure protection of vulnerable populations, especially women and children.

MWIA welcomes efforts to advance precision medicine, integrated emergency, critical and operative care, equitable access and ethical oversight of transplantation services, and addressing rare diseases as essential components of UHC.

Finally, we urge Member States and partners to integrate sepsis into UHC benefit packages. Sepsis affects 26 million women and 20 million children under five annually and is an important tracer indicator of UHC and health system performance.
