79th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Group 8: Rehab, Indigenous Health, & Nutrition
Statement:

15.4: Maternal, infant and young child nutrition.

Progress toward global nutrition targets has slowed or stalled, with anemia now affecting nearly one in three women and millions of children still experiencing stunting and wasting. These trends reflect persistent gaps in diet quality, health services, and equitable access to care. Proven, cost‑effective interventions—including breastfeeding protection, maternal micronutrient supplementation, improved complementary feeding, and early detection and treatment of malnutrition—must be delivered at scale through primary health care and food systems. We urge Member States to accelerate investments in integrated nutrition services, strengthen protections for breastfeeding, and prioritize vulnerable, and crisis‑affected populations to get global targets.
