79th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Group 1: Malaria & Communicable Diseases
Statement:

Immunization remains one of the most powerful tools for saving lives, yet globally, progress is uneven. HPV vaccination highlights this gap: only around 31% of girls globally received a first dose, far below the 90% coverage target for 2030.

While cervical cancer remains a major priority, HPV-associated diseases extend beyond it. Non-cervical cancers, including oropharyngeal cancers, are rising globally, underscoring the urgency of stronger prevention.

Achieving the Immunization Agenda 2030 requires integrated, people-centred health systems that expand adolescent vaccination, ensure gender-equitable access, and reach marginalized, vulnerable and unreached populations.

Oral health professionals remain a largely underutilized resource. Through regular contact with adolescents, they can support prevention, early detection, and provide strong vaccine advocacy.

FDI is launching a White Paper on this, and stands ready to support Member States in advancing these efforts.

Thank you.
