79th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
14.3 Poliomyelitis
Statement:

Honourable Chair, distinguished delegates,
The GPEI is a model for how the reformed global health architecture can function optimally. It exemplifies the coordinated, multi partner action our evolving global health architecture requires, reducing fragmentation and strengthening collective impact. It has built critical public health functions—surveillance, laboratories, and rapid response—that underpin broader health security and resilience, while being equity driven by reaching and leaving no one behind.

Future GHA reforms should leverage GPEI’s partnership model to improve coordination across health initiatives. Doing so is vital to sustaining and transitioning GPEI assets to preserve hard-won gains, strengthen country systems, and demonstrate that our collective efforts can deliver lasting, inclusive results for all.
