World Federation of Public Health Associations

Meeting:

79th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Group 5: Medical Products & AMR
Statement:

The World Federation of Public Health Associations welcomes the draft updated global action plan on antimicrobial resistance. With one in six bacterial infections globally now resistant to first-line antibiotics, the growing crisis of antimicrobial resistance demands our immediate attention.
To catalyse action, we call on Member States to formally integrate young professionals into National AMR Steering Committees. As frontline practitioners and a digitally immersed generation, young professionals are essential to driving behavioural change, innovation and surveillance capacity required by the new Global Action Plan.
We call on this Assembly to urgently adopt the updated Global Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance with youth-inclusive governance and adequately financed implementation.
