Statement:

Communicable diseases: Immunization Agenda 2030 (item 12.3)

The World Medical Association notes with concern that misinformation, eroding public trust, and non-evidence-based changes to national schedules risk reversing decades of progress and endangering public health worldwide. We recently adopted an urgent resolution warning against non-evidence-based changes to childhood vaccination schedules.

Physicians around the world urge Member States to safeguard continuous, life-course immunisation as a cornerstone of global health. Populations facing the greatest barriers to access must be prioritised. We encourage expedited development, financing, and implementation of school-based and community programmes to ensure access to vaccines for all. Public trust depends on safety and credibility. Complete immunisation schedules should be delivered or overseen by trained health professionals, with investment in their role to strengthen vaccine confidence.
