Draft updated global action plan on antimicrobial resistance (item 12.9)
The World Medical Association recognises antimicrobial resistance as a critical threat to global health and universal health coverage. We welcome progress on the draft updated global action plan and support its adoption at the 77th WHA.
In line with the WMA Statement on AMR, we urge Member States to strengthen stewardship across human, animal, and environmental health sectors through a One Health approach. Robust surveillance, infection prevention and control, regulatory enforcement, and laboratory capacity are essential, alongside sustained financing.
Equitable access to effective antimicrobials, diagnostics, and vaccines must be ensured, particularly for vulnerable populations. The WMA emphasises workforce education and accountability to preserve antimicrobial efficacy for future generations.
