79th WHA Individual Statements
Honourable Chairperson, Distinguished Delegates,
The resolution Radiation and Health: Strengthening Global Protection, Preparedness and Response highlights the importance of integrated, evidence-based approaches to protecting patients, workers, and the public from ionising and non-ionising radiation in both routine and emergency situations. Radiological protection remains a core public and occupational health function.
As exposure patterns evolve and new technologies emerge, coherent, health centred policies, robust risk assessments, effective communication, and harmonised protection frameworks become increasingly essential. Effective national systems are critical for managing radiation technologies, securing radioactive sources, strengthening emergency preparedness, and addressing ionising and non-ionising radiation concerns.
ICRP stands ready to support WHO and Member States in implementing this resolution.
Thank you.
