79th WHA Individual Statements
Agenda Item 15.5
Individual Statement from the International Union for Health Promotion and Education
The International Union for Health Promotion and Education (IUHPE) addresses Member States as we mark the 40th anniversary of the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion. We call on Member States to:
- Reaffirm health promotion as a core function of resilient health systems and
honour the Charter's 40th anniversary with a renewed commitment to peace as a
prerequisite for health and well-being.
- Integrate health promotion fully into health systems design and funding,
inclusive of strengthening communities and workforce capacity.
- Uphold multilateral and intersectoral cooperation, investing in WHO's leadership
and recognising the key role of non-state actors in bringing scientific expertise and
community perspectives to global health governance.
Health is not merely the absence of disease — it is the foundation upon which all forms of life may thrive.
