Meeting:

78th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Item 18.1 The impact of chemicals, waste and pollution on human
Statement:

Esteemed Chair and distinguished delegates,

The International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations recognises the impact that chemicals, waste, and pollution have on population health and the role and responsibility that health systems, including policymakers and healthcare providers, hold in addressing these challenges.

IFMSA calls to:
• Follow the recommendations of the WHO and commit to the goals and indicators established in the Global Framework.
• Strengthen health surveillance and monitoring systems to detect and respond promptly to risks.
• Invest in sustainable and low-carbon health supply chains.
• Integrate a One Health approach in all national strategies.

Health systems must not only treat the consequences of pollution and chemical exposure but also actively work to prevent them.

Thank you
