Meeting:

78th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Item 17.3 Health conditions in the occupied Palestinian territory, including east Jerusalem
Statement:

The International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA), representing 1.5 million medical students, expresses deep concern over deteriorating health conditions in the occupied Palestinian territory, including east Jerusalem, and the occupied Syrian Golan. Health infrastructure has suffered extensive damage, and access to essential services remains critically limited.

In recent months, immense suffering, large-scale displacement, and ongoing challenges have been seen to the safety of healthcare systems and personnel.

We mourn the loss of 25 medical students in Gaza and stand in solidarity with the many others whose education has been disrupted. We commend their resilience and courage in supporting healthcare delivery under exceptional conditions.

We call upon WHO and member states to reaffirm that access to healthcare and humanitarian assistance in conflict settings is a fundamental human right, and safeguarding health personnel and facilities must remain a priority.

Thank you.
