Investing in health is fundamental to achieving Sustainable Development Goals, from eradicating poverty to addressing climate change.
Yet, global health financing remains largely insufficient. In an era of diminishing multilateralism, governments must urgently reaffirm their commitments to health by increased domestic budgetary allocations, particularly for universal health coverage.
At the same time, we are deeply concerned that Sepsis - linked to at least nine SDGs and responsible for 1 in 5 deaths globally - remains largely overlooked. Affecting nearly 50 million people annually, Sepsis has a disproportionate impact on children, women and the poor. Similar to COVID-19, any future pandemic will increase the risks of Sepsis and we must be better prepared.
We call for greater investment in health and greater visibility of Sepsis in SDG-related dialogue and global health architecture.
