The International League of Dermatological Societies

Meeting:

78th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Item 13.2 Mental health and social connection
Statement:

Skin diseases represent one of the largest disease burdens linked to anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, isolation, and loneliness. They affect the quality of life and psychosocial wellbeing of individuals, as well as their families, carers, and communities. Many of those affected face stigma, discrimination, and social exclusion, which can limit employment opportunities, access to healthcare, and the full enjoyment of human rights.

The International League of Dermatological Societies encourages Member States to prioritise the integration of mental health into national care models and health policies, and include services for skin diseases within disability, rehabilitation, and mental health frameworks. A healthy skin is a healthy mind, and a socially connected life.

Thank you.
