The International League of Dermatological Societies

Meeting:

78th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Items 12 and 13.1.
Statement:

The International League of Dermatological Societies welcomes WHO’s continued efforts to strengthen global coordination mechanisms for the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), including its commitment to multistakeholder engagement.

NCDs affect billions of people globally, with skin-related NCDs affecting over 250 million people worldwide and often associated with comorbidities such as cardiovascular disease. They can lead to profound stigma, negatively affect mental health, and contribute to social exclusion.

We urge Member States to strengthen multisectoral collaboration and prioritise integrated, holistic approaches to improve access to NCDs care. Addressing the full impact of all NCDs, including their impact on mental health and socioeconomic livelihood, is essential to advancing health equity. For health systems to be considered truly effective, equitable, and responsive, there is a need for responses that reflect the diversity of NCDs and the realities of those affected.
