International Union of Psychological Science

Meeting:

78th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Item 13.2 Mental health and social connection
Statement:

The International Union of Psychological Science (IUPsyS), supports WHO’s prioritisation of mental health and social connection.

We recommend:
1. Integrating psychological science into national mental health policies
2. Investing in scalable, community-based interventions,
3. Addressing digital and structural determinants of disconnection, such as exclusion from digital access and services;
4. Expanding the mental health workforce by incorporating evidence-based task-sharing models that use trained lay providers, which are already implemented in low- and middle-income countries

IUPsyS affirms that mental well-being and social connectedness are not secondary priorities - they are prerequisites for achieving health equity and sustainable development.
