Global Self-Care Federation

Meeting:

78th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Item 15. Antimicrobial resistance
Statement:

The Global Self-Care Federation welcomes the opportunity to contribute to global AMR containment. As a federation representing the self-care industry, we highlight the essential role that non-prescription antimicrobials play in infection prevention and control.
From basic hand hygiene to treating minor wounds, fungal or viral infections, these products empower individuals to manage health early— by reducing microbial load at the source, helping to prevent infections and reducing systemic antibiotic use.
As the Global Action Plan on AMR evolves, we urge delegates to recognize the untapped potential of self-care and responsible non-prescription antimicrobial use in national action plans and global procurement strategies. We remain committed to supporting WHO’s goals through public education, responsible access, and multisectoral collaboration.
