The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition
79th WHA Individual Statements
We commend Member States for adopting WHA76.19 on large-scale food fortification. Three years on, countries have advanced fortification standards, improved regulations, and integrated them into food systems and nutrition strategies. Yet, gains are uneven, and micronutrient deficiencies still affect billions, especially women and children in low- and middle-income countries. GAIN partners with governments, industry, and civil society to translate commitments into results through innovation and country-led approaches. Evidence shows fortification already fills billions of nutrient gaps, but impact can grow. Priorities for all actors must strengthen compliance, align with WHO guidance, and scale to new foods and nutrients. By 2030, fortification can deliver cost-effective, universal access to essential vitamins.
