We welcome the request to extend the period of consultations for one more year to ensure a broader reach of indigenous peoples’ participation in the development of a draft global plan of action.

We call on WHO to provide adequate funding for this consultation to ensure effective participation and inclusivity. In particular, funding should enable:
more extensive awareness raising of the consultation process amongst indigenous peoples;
opportunities for in-person consultations in all WHO regions; and
language support services that allow indigenous peoples to make their contributions in their preferred languages.

We stand in solidarity with indigenous peoples worldwide currently resisting a capitalist extractivist system that is destroying Mother Earth, and therefore, their livelihoods.
