20.1 Reform of the global health architecture and the UN80 Initiative
Thank you, Chair.
We welcome the Director-General’s report on the reform of the global health architecture and the UN80 Initiative and the proposed joint process to transform the GHA into a country-led, coherent, and inclusive ecosystem.
However, to overcome systemic fragmentation and the power imbalances highlighted in the report, the new architecture must firmly anchor equity at its core. True global health equity and resilience are impossible without achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) that fully integrates comprehensive Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). We emphasise that the promise of UHC can only be fulfilled when we address the distinct barriers to SRHR, recognising that the lack of comprehensive care disproportionately impacts women and girls, and ensuring that health systems actively advance gender equity and the realisation of health rights for all.
Furthermore, as the report addresses a contracting financing environment, we urge the Joint Task Force to align financing streams to support nationally owned, long-term social protection systems that can withstand economic and climate shocks. This will enable increased public investment in health required to achieve UHC, guaranteeing safe, timely, and uninterrupted access to comprehensive health information, supplies, and services.
To this end, we urge Member States to ensure that civil society and Global South communities are meaningful co-designers throughout all phases of this reform to truly leave no one behind.
