International Council of Nurses
79th WHA Individual Statements
The International Council of Nurses (ICN), representing over 30 million nurses worldwide, reaffirms that immunization is among the most effective public health interventions and must be strengthened as a core pillar of primary health care. Achieving Immunization Agenda 2030 (IA2030) targets requires the meaningful engagement of the nursing workforce in planning, delivery, and leadership.
IA2030 priorities—including people-centred approaches, country ownership, integration within primary health care, sustainable financing, and innovation—depend on a strong and well-supported nursing workforce. As the largest providers of immunization globally, nurses bring essential expertise in behavioural and social strategies to address under-vaccination, counter misinformation, build public confidence, and improve coverage. ICN and National Nurses Associations worldwide stand ready to work in partnership with Member States to achieve IA2030 objectives and sustain immunization gains.
