Fédération Handicap International
79th WHA Individual Statements
Handicap International Federation, supported by the World Rehabilitation Alliance, recognises the 2023 rehabilitation resolution as a historic milestone.
Since 2017, over 80 countries have strengthened rehabilitation through national strategies and regional frameworks. Recent funding cuts threaten progress, particularly in low- and middle-income and crisis-affected settings.
We urge Member States to deliver on commitments through political engagement, financing, and timely reporting against agreed indicators — recognising functioning as a third dimension of population health alongside mortality and morbidity. We urge WHO to publish the timeline for the Global Status Report on Rehabilitation, due under WHA76.6.
The 2.6 billion people who need rehabilitation cannot be left behind. We stand ready to collaborate.
