78th WHA Individual Statements
Honourable chairperson, distinguished Delegates,
As we approach the midpoint of the SDGs, IFMSA is deeply concerned that many health-related targets remain off track. Health is an outcome, prerequisite, and driver of all other SDGs. The COVID-19 pandemic exposed system fragilities and worsened inequalities, especially for youth and vulnerable communities. We must now rebuild through resilient, inclusive, and people-centred systems.
We urge Member States to:
1. Integrate the SDGs into national legislation, plans, and budgets, with transparent resource allocation for health, education, and the environment.
2. Address regional health disparities.
3. Strengthen primary health care, disease surveillance, and equitable access to quality services.
4. Invest in national data systems and ensure transparent SDGs reporting.
5. Promote cross-sectoral policies with meaningful youth engagement.
The 2030 Agenda is a vision of shared prosperity and dignity. Let’s make health equity not just a promise, but a reality.
Thank you.
