The Cochrane Collaboration
78th WHA Individual Statements
Honorable Chair, Esteemed Delegates,
Rehabilitation helps achieve optimal functioning and reduces the impact of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) on people's lives, health and well-being.
The Global Action Plan for the Prevention and Control of NCDs identifies rehabilitation as a key health strategy in NCD programmes to address both NCD-related functional loss and risk factors.
Reducing NCDs and their consequences requires integrated service delivery (including rehabilitation) across the three health indicators: mortality, morbidity and functioning.
Cochrane, with the support of the World Rehabilitation Alliance, calls on Member States to:
- Develop and include specific indicators for functioning and rehabilitation in the Global NCD Monitoring Framework; and
- Integrate rehabilitation into the Fourth High-Level Meeting Declaration and into national health policies for NCDs to ensure that no one is left behind.
Thank you
