78th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Item 16.2 Intergovernmental Negotiating Body to draft and negotiate a WHO convention, agreement or other international instrument on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response
Statement:

Honourable Chair, Distinguished Delegates,

I speak on behalf of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), representing over four million pharmacists, pharmaceutical scientists, and educators worldwide.

The Intergovernmental Negotiating Body (INB) plays a crucial role in shaping how healthcare professionals and pharmacy sectors can respond to future pandemics. By promoting equitable access to vaccines and essential medicines, the INB’s framework may be vital to support pharmacists and healthcare workers in delivering timely, effective care during future pandemics.

FIP aims to support pandemic preparedness efforts through our members and constituencies, by strengthening international coordination, enhancing supply chain resilience, and reducing shortages that directly impact frontline workers.

Ultimately, pharmacists, together with other allied healthcare professionals, aim to build a stronger, more unified healthcare response system, where pharmacy and healthcare workers are better protected and prepared for the future.

The future starts now.

Thank you.
