78th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Item 13.4 Communicable diseases
Statement:

The International League of Dermatological Societies strongly supports the proposed resolution on skin diseases as a global public health priority.

Skin diseases represent a significant, yet often overlooked, burden, impacting not only physical health but also mental well-being, education, economic productivity, and social inclusion. These conditions disproportionately affect vulnerable populations, including children, the elderly, people living with disabilities, and people experiencing homelessness, and are frequently accompanied by stigma, isolation, and psychological distress. This emphasises the urgent need for comprehensive care models that include dermatological management, wound care, physiotherapy, and mental health support.

We urge Member States to adopt this crucial resolution prioritising integrated approaches for prevention, diagnosis, and effective treatment of all skin diseases. By doing so, Member States can make meaningful progress toward achieving Universal Health Coverage and reducing the global burden of skin diseases.
