77th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Item 29 Matters for information: progress reports (Items A-O)
Statement:

We welcome the progress of the GHSS on HIV, Viral Hepatitis, and STIs 2022-2030. However, we regret the slow progress in reducing new infections and deaths, especially related to congenital syphilis and cervical cancer, both diseases which can be easily prevented. IPPF reaffirms its commitment to people-centred STI care as part of comprehensive sexual and reproductive health.

We are alarmed that attacks on reproductive health and rights slow efforts to eliminate these diseases. Without comprehensive sexuality education, information about use of condoms and other protective measures are not universally available, and threats to gender rights further marginalize key communities from services.

These issues must be more adequately addressed in the implementation of WHO's Fourteenth General Programme of Work.
