Medicines for Malaria Venture welcomes the report on the Global Technical Strategy for Malaria and the Yaoundé Declaration for accelerated malaria mortality reduction in Africa. Both call for stronger investment in resource mobilization, research and innovation. Indeed, we need continued investment to meet the research and product development goals of the technical strategy, which are still underfunded, and develop innovations to complement the current, still imperfect, prevention and treatment options. Drug resistance is a major risk for progress in the implementation of the strategy, requiring new tools and approaches to address it. MMV is committed to this agenda, and to support the research and manufacturing capacities in the affected regions to achieve better supply security for antimalarials.
