77th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Group 1.1. Items 11.1 and 11.2
Statement:

The World Federation of Neurology extends its gratitude for the opportunity to address the WHA. We urge all member states and stakeholders to recognize and prioritize brain health as an integral component of universal health coverage, also in the context of the implementation of the WHO Intersectoral global action plan on epilepsy and other neurological disorders.
We call for:
• Prioritizing prevention and early intervention strategies for neurological disorders.
• Equitable access to quality neurological care for all individuals, irrespective of socioeconomic status or geographical location, through expanding access to essential medicines and diagnostic tools, providing neurological training to more healthcare professionals, and reducing stigma.
• Increasing investments in neurological research and innovation, prioritizing collaborative initiatives.
The burden of neurological disorders is staggering and multifaceted, and achieving UHC necessitates a comprehensive approach that encompasses not only physical health but also neurological and mental well-being.
