77th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Group 2.1. Items 13.1, 13.2 and 14.1 (Doc A77/11 and A77/4)
Statement:

ADI welcomes these reports and the work of the WHO during health emergencies around the world. In the context of these reports, Alzheimer’s Disease International would like to highlight the particular and disproportionate impact of health, conflict and humanitarian disasters on those living with dementia.

Evidence has shown, those living with dementia, in the later stages of the condition, have often refused to leave sites of danger or do not comprehend the danger around them. Additionally there is the disruption to the diagnosis pathway and issues with access to treatment and support.

Accordingly, we would like to remind the WHO and Member States, when completing their essential work, to be mindful of the specific needs of those living with dementia and work with our associations in affected areas, ensuring those living with dementia receive the support and care they need.
