77th WHA Individual Statements

Agenda Item:
- Item 15.4 Climate change, pollution and health
Statement:

Climate change and associated pollution are causing diverse threats to human health and the environment. Mitigation of pharmaceutical pollution includes reducing medicines waste and disposing of unused medicines appropriately, among other activities.

The pharmacy profession is leading the way to environmental sustainability by actively contributing to cleaner air and water, greener medicines use, and sustainable pharmaceutical services.

Pharmacists, as medicines experts, are well positioned in all communities and have an ethical responsibility to mitigate climate and pollution risks across the pharmaceutical supply chain and medication management practices.

We encourage Member States to leverage and integrate pharmacists and pharmacies as partners in supporting planetary health through equitable and environmentally sustainable practice and, in line with our commitment to Universal Health Coverage, when they this health to think pharmacy.
